VisTablet Customer Service

Pro Tip:  Don't keep your trashcan next to your desk.

Say you have a nifty graphic pen tablet given to you by a lovely spouse.  You wouldn't want the only pen that makes the tablet function to roll into the trashcan...as mine did.

I went to VisTablet.net and found a replacement pen under accessories.  The pen is not available on Amazon or at other third party vendors.  However, the VisTablet site had an accessories page with the required pen. All was well until checkout when my order was repeatedly rejected.

So I sent an email to customer service requesting help.   This is the remarkable bit, two minutes later I received a phone call from a man named Mike.  I couldn't hear him clearly but I believe he said he was a VP at VisTablet and wanted to know if he could help me out with the rejected order.

He suggested I might use Paypal or another card and said if that didn't work he would take my order over the phone.  He also gave me his phone number in case we got disconnected.  He chatted a bit with me about how they want to introduce a gallery of user art samples to their web page and his ideas about creating a contest with pro-level hardware for prizes.

I think the problem was with the brand of card I was using conflicted with their shopping cart.  The order went through with a different card.  It would be nice to have the preferred cards listed on the payment page, but I appreciated the extra customer service!

Even Freelancers need to get their hair did.

Google hangouts aside I rarely look my clients in the eye.  Almost all my business is done over email and phone, and while I try not to descend into terrifying swamp lady territory I do tend to think about my hair as a nuisance rather than my crowing glory.

This is where I delegate to another artist, Willow Witten.  She fulfilled all of my requirements for a haircut.  The main one was the ability to go from zero to fancy in under four minutes before 6:30am.  I couldn't be more delighted with the result.

If you live in Austin you must give her a visit!

Comic Friday- St. Georgia

Prolific illustrator Robin Boyden found a clever way to build both a community and a comic on his portfolio website.  He began an comic about a wanderer named St. Georgia who comes upon a mysterious cave.  "What's in the cave?" was the question and fans were encouraged to respond in the comments section.

"The cave is home to a rare species of giant firefly." - Shaun Richens
"In the light stood a giant carved stone Moai head, like the ones of the Easter Island statues." - Natalie Hughes

A few days later part 2 of the adventure was posted.

Sometimes the fans interact directly with St. Georgia having their comments translated into word balloons.    Want to be in comics?  Just start reading (and writing) St. Georgia!

I love this idea and dabbled with it myself earlier this year.
